We’ve got together with the guys at Compass Education and Training to put together an online course “designed for anybody considering a career as a service dog handler or those currently working as a service dog handler that have not studied the subjects covered. The course is equally relevant to handlers of Police Dogs, detection dogs, search dogs, security dogs, assistance dogs or any others that provide a service.”
The course is split into modules:
Legal Responsibilities of the Dog Handler. There are many laws surrounding dogs and although it could be argues that every dog owner should be aware of them all it is crucial that professional dog handlers have a sound understanding of their legal responsibilities.
Canine First Aid – Canine first aid is an essential part of the skills of any professional dog handler. this module covers a wide range of scenarios and actions to be taken along with checking vital sign, compiling a first aid kit and much more
Maintaining a Healthy Dog Routine – Daily, weekly and longer term health checks, vaccinations, parasite control, toys, diet and needs that change with age are all covered in this comprehensive module
Canine Learning – This module covers the psychological principles behind all dog training, some of the language is technical but each dog handler must be fully conversant with the subject if they are to make the most of training their dog.
We chose to work with Compass-education.co.uk, as we believe that they are the leaders in providing the best in online education, their courses are recognised by amongst others The Canine Behaviour & training Society, The International Association of Animal Behaviour Consultants, National Search and Rescue Dog Association and the International society of Animal Professionals.
Will the course help you to become a Professional Dog handler? … maybe, but will the course help you to become a better Professional Dog handler? … definitely.
